The Weight
Sometimes the weight of doing everything by myself all day every day can become very very very very heavy. Some things don't take a long time, it's just the tediousness of one additional item to balance. Amazon was making life a bit simpler, as a few clicks obtained the small things I'd normally pop into a Walmart for, but recently I've been the target of the cardboard police in the apartment building, so I'm trying to limit my purchases so I don't continue to get harassed. So there have been some longer days as I make a midweek trip to the store to add a few things that the Saturday morning grocery haul may not be equipped to handle.
I've been here 9 months, but there are still administrative things to be done. I finally managed an appointment next week with a doctor that can hopefully help with an insulin pump. This after I travelled for 2 hours to see an endocrinologist I really like, and get new insulin prescriptions, but found out that he cannot help with the actual pump. So I'm sacrificing more time to see yet another doctor for a maybe...
I finally have the mail and healthcare bills sorted out. Next up is my drivers license, but that requires a different doctor appointment and letter, so there's another few days of my life. I always hate dealing with the administrative or healthcare side of life, and adding in foreign languages or time changes makes it extra unbearable. Getting hold of Medtronic in the USA took weeks of managing my time zones and phone calls, and working through 500 options of select the number. I couldn't access my Verizon account due to my location. It gets so beyond exhausting.
On my to-do list since May has been switching phone plans. I want to keep my USA number, as it's tied to my WhatsApp, but I keep my phone in airplane mode, so didn't want to pay for a data plan I wasn't going to fully utilize, while till managing the option to use my phone when I am back in the USA. I actually almost finished the process this summer, but couldn't get ahold of Verizon for some needed info. My September USA visit proved way too busy between all the commitments to complete this task either, so it was on my must-do list for October's visit. Since I ended up on the couch for the duration, the only thing I accomplished was getting a new phone (also on my to-do list for the last year now). My dad kindly facilitated the new phone, and offered his assistance with the service provider switch.
Black Friday, on a call, he offered to complete the switch, and send me the needed info. I woke up over the weekend to a barrage of emails: login info, confirmation numbers, and more. The info was also repeated on Whatsapp. I opened the website link he sent, and followed the instructions, and was grateful to be done in less than 30 minutes.
For a few minutes... the weight was lifted. Thanks dad.
