Life, Lately

So it's been a bit of radio silence, since I was in the USA. I was back in Boston for a week to help in my old capacity as Learning Experience Facilitator. I made it in Saturday afternoon and picked up a rental car. I was uncertain if I'd remember how to drive, much less in Boston traffic, but 10 minutes out of Logan we remembered just fine and kept up with the Massholes. As I pulled into the hotel, I was spotted by three of my students from Europe, who kindly assisted me with my bags and invited me to join for all the festivities with them. The week included multiple meals shared with wonderful people from work and church and gave me a chance to properly say goodbye to some and update others. It was a heavy week of training. I remembered that it would be an intense week of work, but forgot how much jetlag would play a part. Plus the hotel ventilation (that always affects all my European students) completely did me in. Tuesday morning I felt like death, and my coworker kindly covered one of my rotations so I could nap during lunch. I felt much better after, and the week improved from there. It was great to jump right back into my beloved fire pumps and my favorite flood table and continue client relationships.

I spent Good Friday and Easter at my Boston church. It was wonderful to step right back into the familiar community and worship. As wonderful as new things are, there is a security and relaxation in the familiar.

Easter lunch was spent with my international student group. It was, as usual, exhausting to pull together lunch and ensure everything was organized chaos, but the reward in seeing so many experience Easter for the first time was incredible.

Leaving Boston this time was different. It was more final. Last time, yes I was moving, but I knew I would be back in several weeks. Now, I won't be back until September. I wonder if my favorite little boys will remember me. This time, leaving was for good. I'm fully committed to Luxembourg now, but it was still sad to say goodbye for good to my home the last year.

It was wonderful to feel fully home though. Here I stand and here I stay. Let the storm rage on!
